Deca Dance preview – Batsheva Ensemble: Sadler’s Wells, London, 19-21 November 2012

On their way

The achingly hip Batsheva Ensemble practise standing up on the Tube ahead of their trip to London.

Consisting of dancers between the ages of 18-24 recruited from some of the world’s finest dance schools, the Batsheva Ensemble is the younger sibling of the internationally acclaimed Batsheva Dance Company. Based in Tel Aviv the Ensemble dancers work and train alongside the main company and also feature prominently in the company’s significant educational activities.

From 19-21 November 2012 they’ll be performing for the first time in the UK at London’s Sadler’s Wells. The punningly titled Deca Dance features a constantly refreshed montage of some of the best pieces of choreography that Artistic Director Ohad Naharin (whose work has been performed by companies as diverse as Paris Opera Ballet, Cullberg Ballet and Rambert Dance Company) has produced for the company over the past 20 years. The music veers from Vivaldi to The Beach Boys and, according to the New York Times, the company ‘dance like demons’.
